Africa - Christmas Donation

This year we were fortunate enough to have the opportunity give our Christmas donation to a village in Ghana called Have. Mr. Warren's fiancée, Rachel, has been working in Ghana over the Autumn term in a hospital in Kumasi and heard of a village that was in desperate need of some help. The Have village clinic is about 180K North East of the capital Accra and serves rural communities in the surrounding area. The clinic serves a population of about 5000 patients and it is not unusual for someone to walk 15K from a neighbouring village to get access to the clinic.

Through large donations from the staff, the children (through the treasure chest) and parents (collection at our Christmas celebrations) we raised over £500 to help kit out the clinic. This amazing total really did stretch far and allowed Rachel to by a huge amount of equipment from DAN ADAMS Pharmaceutical Ltd. To give you an example of what your money could buy, here is part of the price list below.

As you can see from the photographs and video clips, the whole village turned out to celebrate what was being done to improve their clinic. The village put on special plays and dances to say thank you and even Ghanaian newspapers and TV crews were there. The village chief made a speech and passed on his thanks to all those that donated to help the people of Have.

For the next two days a walk in clinic was set up in Have which allowed a great deal of the rural population to receive the treatment they so desperately needed.

A HUGE thank you to all the staff, pupils and their parents who contributed and a special thank you to Rachel for giving our school this opportunity to make a real difference to people's lives over Christmas.
