Pages - Design Technology - Year 5
The children in
Year 5 have been making huts in DT to represent those they have been
learning about in Chembakolli, India.
Ayah and Olivia from 6W have interviewed some of them to see how
they were made.

Chembakolli houses
Things Connor used:
Sticks
Cardboard

Wood and brown paper
How Connor made the
Chembakolli house:
1. Connor got some wood
and stuck it together for the floor and left to dry.
2. Then he put some brown paper on top of the wood to make it
look like a floor.
3. He then got some cardboard and made a house out of it and cut
out some windows and doors.
4. After that he went into his garden and got some sticks and
put them aside.
5. He got his foam and painted it for his garden then made it
into a square shape.
6. When he stuck it onto his floor outside his house he got some
soil out of his garden and put it in the garden of foam.
7. For his roof he had a hanging basket and glued it onto his
house he then left it to dry.
8. When it had dried he got some bamboo out of his garden and
stuck them on the base of the floor and under the roof to hold
it up.
9. When he had leftovers from his paper he then made some steps
out of it.

How Claudia made the
Chembakolli house:
1. Claudia got a big
piece of clay.
2. She then got another piece of clay and made it as the walls.
3. Then she got cut out some windows and doors.
4. She also made some logs out of clay.
5. After that she then painted the outside of the walls and the
logs.
6. Then she cut out pieces of cardboard and stuck them together
for the roof.
7. After she had done that she stuck four sticks to hold up the
roof.
8. She then stuck some hay on the roof and left it to dry.

How she made the Chembakolli
house:
1. She cut out doors and
windows out of some card.
2. Then stuck two cardboard boxes together.
3. She then made the roof out of some paper then stuck it on
top.
4. After she mixed some paint and baking flour together.
5. Then she cut out some pieces of paper and stuck it on top
