Holocaust Memorial Day - 27 January 2008

In Monday's assembly, Mr. How talked about this special day and the reason why it is so important that we, as human beings, remember those lost during the Holocaust. He also showed us the letter and photographs below, that Gemma from Year 2 brought in about how her distant relatives had been affected.

Having been to the Auschwitz and Birkenau Camps in Poland, I showed some photographs of what I saw to my year 6 pupils.

After discussing what has happened to the Jewish People at these camps my, class felt moved to write some poetry about their feelings on what they had heard and seen. Below are just some examples, and I would like to thank my class for how maturely they reacted to what they had learnt. The poetry is fantastic, but also was their understanding that this should never happen again.

If you are interested in understanding more about the Holocaust, then I can highly recommend these child-friendly books below. Both fantastic books!
