Beaver Road School Vision

Governors have the following main responsibilities:

  • To determine the strategic future of the school;

  • To decide how the school budget should be spent;

  • To appoint senior staff;

  • To decide policy on such things as equal opportunities, discipline, sex education, special needs provision, salaries;

  • To oversee the curriculum provision.

The Governors hold full meetings at least three times a year. Minutes are posted on the Governor’s Notice Board.

The Governors also have a number of sub-committees and working groups that meet regularly throughout the year to look in detail at the curriculum, buildings, finance, health and safety, security etc. The minutes of these meetings are approved by the full Governing Body.
 

The Governing Body

This is made up of:

Headteacher
LEA Governors (appointed by the City Council)
Community Governors

The Chair of Governors is Andrew Harty

The Vice-Chair of Governors is Lynne Allan

Parent Governors elected directly by the parents are:

Paul Barker Matthews, Pauline Black, Sarah Carter and Patricia Holmes and Sarah Turner

Staff Governors elected by teaching and non-teaching staff are:

Jaina Mistry, Miranda Long and Sarah Herbert and David How (headteacher)

LEA Governors approved by the Manchester LEA are:

Christopher Atkinson, Andrew Harty and Kingsley Purdam

Community Governors elected by the Governing Body are:

Lynne Allan and Markus Jolleys

Chair and Vice-Chair to the Governors are elected from the Governing Body.

Thinking of being a Governor?

All Governors are volunteers and do not receive any payment for their work. They do play a vital role in the work of the school.

Being a Governor is demanding and challenging but very rewarding:
