Information PagesNursery and Entering the Nursery The nursery There is a forty five place Nursery intake: Thirty full-time children and fifteen part-time each session. The nursery day is as follows:
It is a condition of entry that all under fives are brought to and collected from school by a responsible adult. It is important that we have an address, and if possible a telephone number where parents can be contacted during school hours in case of illness or accident. If your child become ill at home, please keep him/her off school as not only are infections easily passed on, but your child's concentration will be affected. Please let us know the reason for all absences. Children should be toilet trained before admission to the Nursery, but they all have accidents from time to time. If your child comes home in school clothing please wash and return them as soon as possible. At Nursery level, learning how to learn is of prime importance. Everything we provide for the children has an educational purpose. Learning occurs through their play with sand, water, bricks and some toys. Through looking at things carefully, children will be encouraged to notice similarities and differences, ask questions and then start to work out answers for themselves. These experiences will later lead to more formal skills like matching and sorting together and using pencils and crayons. Such activities form the basis for reading, writing and mathematics. Your child's progress will be carefully checked and recorded throughout his or her time with us. Entering the Nursery A waiting list is kept of children intending to enter the nursery. You will be informed as to whether or not a place can be offered during the term prior to the entry date. Note: The admission list does not work on a "first come - first served" basis, so the date on which you put your child's name down does not effect the position on the list Where there are more requests for places than the number available the following priorities are used:
Transferring from Nursery to Reception class. Although many parents expect their child to transfer from the nursery class to the reception class of the same school, this cannot be guaranteed. The children transfer from the Nursery to the Reception class in two intakes (September and January). The information below shows when your child will start and when you will be told whether or not your child has got a place in the Reception class. |
