Sport @ BRPS

Beaver Road is a healthy and active school. We believe that sport gives our children the necessary attributes to succeed by developing their resilience, determination and quest for a healthy lifestyle.

The pupils at Beaver Road participate in two hours of Physical Education a week, including an indoor session (dance/gymnastics) taught be their class teacher and an outdoor session (games/leadership) led by our sports coach Mr. Knowles, who is partly funded by the PE and Sports Grant introduced in 2013.

Mr. Knowles follows the National Curriculum for outdoor PE. Focussing in particular on developing skills, tactics/rules and healthy-living through traditional games including invasion, net/wall, striking and fielding. In addition, Mr. Knowles has also led sessions in boccia, handball and seated volleyball which relate to the international comenius projects we have been a part of since London 2012.

At the end of the academic year, Mr. Knowles hosts a Sports Celebration assembly. Here he presents awards for the intra and inter school tournaments and the overall team winner for sports that year. Alongside this, Mr. Knowles presents awards to individual pupils celebrating their key contribution to a teams success e.g. MVP for Basketball 2014.

An example of our achievements include representing Manchester City as Under 11 finalists in 2012 at Arsenal's Emirates Stadium and then in the following year at Liverpool's Anfield Stadium.

At Beaver Road we are always looking for links to local sports clubs and when talent is spotted at an early age, Mr. Knowles may promote attendance at one of these clubs. We currently have links with Manchester City FC, Didsbury Juniors FC, Northern Tennis/Squash Club, Sale Harriers, Messing About On The Mersey and Parrswood High School.
