3T - Ancient Egypt

Year 3T went to the University of Manchester Museum. Our class topic is Ancient Egypt and we wanted to find out some more interesting facts. We listened to a story about a young Egyptian girl who lived in Ancient Egyptian times. Our tour guide told us lots of facts about how people lived and what happened when Ancient Egyptians died. We also got to hold Ancient Egyptian artefacts which were very exciting. Here are a few pictures from our experience. You can visit the Ancient Egyptian exhibition for free at the museum.

5B Art

Here are some photographs of art work produced last week in 5B. On Monday 28th March, we took advantage of a lovely Spring day (before the April showers kicked in!) and the fantastic opportunity to extend our learning to the outside environment. The children used oil pastels to sketch the Magnolia tree, magnificent in full bloom, in the Four Seasons garden. The standard of their work was incredibly high and the finished sketches were used for our Mother's Day cards. We hope everyone enjoys these simple, yet effective sketches by the talented artists in 5B, as much as we have enjoyed the sight of the beautiful tree.

3G Ancient Egypt

As part of our Ancient Egypt topic, 3G went on a trip to Manchester Museum. We learned all about a young girl called Tamanis and the short life she lived in a town called Shmin. We also looked at artefacts, we were allowed to touch them and we worked out what they were used for. Finally we had a look at the museums exhibitions and saw a real mummy, it was a little gruesome!

Year 3 Ancient Egypt

In year 3 as an entry point for our topic, Ancient Egypt, we made our own recycled paper. Look at how much fun we are all having! First of all we shredded scrap paper, then we mixed it with water and blended it to make the pulp, it felt very cold and yucky. After that we put the pulp on top of our deckle to shape the paper and allow as much of the excess water as possible to drain through. The next step was to place a cloth over the the pulp and the deckle to turn out our recycled piece of paper. We are still waiting for it to dry!

1M Red Nose Day

1M had lots of fun wearing red, buying red noses and raffle tickets. Everyone took part in raising money for Comic Relief.

Nursery Car Wash!

These pictures show the nursery children enjoying working at Beaver Road car wash and all our bikes are now brilliantly clean!!

Year 1 Celebrate Chinese New Year

We have been very busy celebrating Chinese New Year. In Year 1 we have been describing dragons, making salt dough animals and Chinese lanterns. We used lots of boxes and built our own dragon which we painted in bright colours and did a Chinese dragon dance around the yard.

Light and Sound

Year 3 had a visit from a local photographer, Mr Burke. He spoke to us about how a camera uses light to take a picture and how the amount of light around us can affect the quality of a picture. Mr Burke also spoke about how a camera receives light from a flash and how we can increase the amount of light by using bulbs and lamps.

This is what 3G had to say about the visit:

Scarlet enjoyed learning how to paint with light.
Anna enjoyed learning about how we use colour in photographs.
Billy liked it when he changed the colour of a lamp by putting a gel in front of the bulb.
Ella liked it when she put up a reflector to make the light really bright

Can you remember how you paint with light? Remember you need a dark space, a torch and a camera!

Thank you Mr Burke.
