What do we believe at Beaver Road?
At Beaver Road we believe that children should be given the
opportunity to take part in extra curricular sport. We believe that
sport gives children the opportunity to interact with each other and
form social bonds and relationships as well as improving skills and
learning new ones. It allows them the opportunity to exercise and
have fun as well as giving them an understanding of teamwork,
sportsmanship and respect for each other. At this stage of their
learning it helps to build their confidence and self-esteem.
School-club links
A school-club link is an agreement between a school or school sport
partnership and a community based sports club to work together to:
- meet the needs of all
young people
- provide new and varied
opportunities for young people
- help young people to
realise their ambitions in sport and dance by providing pathways
for them to follow
- agree good standards of
provision and put in place quality controls and club and school
developments to ensure that standards remain high.
(Recognising and
achieving effective links between school and sports clubs DfES
2006)
Since September 2008 Beaver
Road has worked extremely hard to develop quality school-club links
with clubs in the Didsbury locality. Some of these links provide us
with the opportunity to use their facilities. Other links involve
their coaches coming into our School to provide first class coaching
to our children inside and outside of curriculum time.
From September 2010 any extra
curricular sport provided by an outside agency will be facilitated
by a club linked to our School with the objective being first class
coaching to our children in school and the opportunity to attend the
club outside of school.
Our
school-club links to date are:
- Didsbury Cricket Club
- Didsbury Juniors
Football Club
- Manchester City Football
Club
- Waconians Lacrosse Club
- Old Bedians Rugby Club
- Northern Tennis Club
In addition our teachers and
teaching assistants provide extra curricular sports clubs at
lunchtime and after school.
The clubs we provide are:
- Hockey
- Netball
- Boys' Football
- Girls' Football
- Cricket
- Dance/Cheerleading
Intra-School Competition
In Key Stage 2 all children take part in intra-school
competition once every term with every class assigned to sports team
– Blue Kestrals,
Yellow Falcons or Green Eagles.
The purpose firstly is to encourage all children to take part in
sport and secondly to give all children the experience of
competitive sport in a ‘fun’ environment whether they win, lose or
draw.

Inter-School
Competition
For those children in Year 5 and 6 who show a particular ‘talent’
for sport they are given the opportunity to compete for Beaver Road
against other schools in competitions organised by the ‘City of
Manchester School Sport Partnership’.
We believe that representing
the School at this level not only gives the children an immense
pride in Beaver Road but also the stage to demonstrate their skills
and talents in a highly competitive environment. The emphasis is
very much on excellence and enjoyment whether they win or lose.
