Visits & Events - MMU VisitJohn Smith and Julie Ryan, two lecturers from the Manchester Metropolitan University Institute of Education, walked across to Beaver Road with a class of student teachers today. The Didsbury Campus, where the students study, is only ten minutes walk from Beaver Road across Didsbury Park. This was the second visit that John, Julie and the students have made to Beaver Road this term. Last month they worked with children from Year 3 on the Japanese abacus, which is called a soroban. Today they worked on fractions, decimals and percentages with children from Year 6. The students are more than halfway through their teaching course and they will eventually teach in primary schools themselves. They found the children of Beaver Road polite, bright, confident and great fun to work with. They got a great deal from the visit which will help them become super teachers themselves and they hope that the children learned a lot and enjoyed the afternoon too. John and Julie hope to bring their students back to Beaver Road soon. By Ali, Haroon, Chris and Laura Photographs by Clare, Catherine, Monique and Ayah.
