Here at Beaver Road Primary School, our vision is to create excitement, passion and a relentless quest for scientific discovery. By carefully sequencing lessons that are exciting, practical and offer hands on experiences, we encourage curiosity and foster learning. Equality of access, is the foundation of our curriculum as we strive to unlock the potential in every child. We encourage our children to become inquisitive scientists by working scientifically, developing their skills, knowledge and understanding, and equipping them with the vital attributes needed to become lifelong learners.

Through our practical and enquiry based curriculum, we seek to encourage and inspire children, from when they first enter the Early Years, to find out and make sense about the world around them. As children progress into Key Stage 1 & 2, knowledge and vocabulary are taught through the three disciplines of Science; Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Our children are naturally inquisitive, and through the teaching of these scientific disciplines, opportunities for questioning and investigations are developed and scientific literacy enhanced. Following our Rights Respecting School ethos, we encourage all our children to explore and discover the world around them. We aim for all learners to have a deeper understanding of the world we live in and most importantly how they can truly make a difference to the future of our planet.
STEM is integral to our curriculum. To nurture the Scientists of tomorrow, we must develop creative links across the curriculum that have relevance and purpose. We ensure STEM is interwoven across our curriculum, in order to prepare our children for the technological and scientific age they live. Members of the school and its wider community are invited in on a regular basis to share their knowledge, expertise and passion of STEM. These real-life examples are imperative to ensure our teaching and learning in Science has a long lasting impact, beyond the classroom walls.
Our philosophy when working in Science is for children to see every lesson as an opportunity to learn something new by constantly questioning, making many mighty mistakes, and ultimately reflecting on what they have discovered!
