Year 5 provides your child with an exciting, challenging and stimulating start to Upper Key Stage Two. Here in Year 5 at Beaver Road Primary School, our focus is on creating high aspirations for all children across a broad and balanced curriculum, so that they are ready for their final year at Primary School. We provide an exciting, challenging curriculum in which all children are motivated to do and be their best.
Lessons are carefully planned and sequenced through our ‘Teaching Backwards’ approach, whereby children are encouraged to ask questions and become investigators in their own learning journey. Children are provided with the knowledge and skills to deepen their understanding and embed their learning. We encourage all children to work collaboratively through our Kagan Structures, team investigations and talk. Children are taught to embrace their ‘Marvellous Mistakes’ and see them as an integral part of learning. Growth Mindset is therefore an essential part of our Year 5 classrooms and learning environments.
Children in Year 5 will be welcomed into a creative, stimulating and exciting learning environment whereby their love of learning can continue to grow. Our classrooms are completed with ‘hands-on’ areas so that children can lead their own learning according to their interests. As well as this, throughout the year, the children will access a range of learning experiences to bring their topics to life such as workshops, school trips and productions.
PE in Year 5 is every Tuesday afternoon and on alternate Mondays. Please send your child into school with a labelled PE kit that is suitable for both indoor and outdoor wear. A white t shirt, shorts, jogging bottoms and a jumper are needed. Your child will also need a pair of trainers. The children will be seperated into single sex rooms to get changed both into and out of their PE kits and will keep their PE kit in their locker until the half term break.
