Multiplication Tables

Why learn and memorise number facts?

  • It is important more than ever in light of how much time children have missed at school during Covid.
  • Automaticity with number facts frees up the working memory to think about other things like working out the stages in a complex word problem.
  • Children need to know the facts so they can focus on the mathematical concepts.
  • Having knowledge of number facts support pupils to think mathematically as they can use them to reason, see structures and patterns, and make connections.

At Beaver Road Primary School, we encourage a whole school approach to fluency of Number as we want our young mathematicians to understand relationships and make connections. These booklets help structure a chronology (A to K) for learning multiplication facts in order to build on prior knowledge of number facts.
